FIRST INSTALLMENT FROM THE TED WATTS COLLECTION

Ted Watts recently turned 90 and has collected since early in his youth. His extensive collection features some of the finest leftist political ephemera we have encountered ranging from the Spanish Civil War to rare artifacts of American labor union strikes. His holdings include #465, a rare flyer for the infamous labor rally at the Haymarket and a powerful Spanish Civil War poster “Today Spain, Tomorrow The World” #479. Ted’s tastes were far and wide so look for items throughout the auction labeled Ted Watts Collection.
  CAMPAIGN OF 1912

One of the most unusual political cycles in our country’s history is drawing to a close. Another unusual cycle occurred back in 1912. Teddy Roosevelt having returned from Africa in 1910, attempted to claim the GOP nomination from sitting President William H. Taft. When this did not materialize, he formed the Progressive Party effectively splitting the GOP vote and allowing Democrat Woodrow Wilson an easy victory. Voters also had the option of famed Socialist labor leader Eugene Debs, and nearly 1 million of them pulled his lever. We’re privileged to offer four outstanding jugates from this campaign: a large TR/Johnson #208, graphic Debs/Seidel #415 and a beautiful matched pair of buttons for Taft/Sherman #219 and Wilson/Marshall #235.
THE BOY ORATOR OF THE PLATTE- WILLIAM J. BRYAN

Despite three failed attempts at the presidency Bryan remains one of the most important politicians of his era. His skills as an orator have led scholars to call him the first celebrity politician. These skills were on display during a North Carolina campaign stop in 1896 and we’re excited to offer lot #139 a likely unique broadside advertising his campaign whistle stop in Statesville. Other fine and rare Bryan material can be found in items #138, 140, 141, 147 and 152.
  VIETNAM RESISTANCE

2016 marks the 50th Anniversary of Muhammad Ali declaring himself a conscientious objector and being stripped of his heavyweight title. We feature an outstanding rarity in lot #547. 1966 marked a turning point in the anti-war movement as the media began covering the domestic turmoil as heavily as the military strategy. We offer several outstanding early buttons including #538 and #540. All material related to the Vietnam War and resistances can be found in lots #535 - #564.

  RAY GUNS ARE A BLAST!

During the 1950s, the space race was well underway, and The Atomic Age influenced various aspects of everyday life. One such area was toys. Whereas children had been playing cowboy with cap guns, the introduction of ray guns changed the landscape. Metal pistols with their loud pops and puffs of smoke were replaced by siren noises, flashing sparks and futuristic designs that transported playtime out of the Old West and into outer space. This auction features a number of ray guns from the collection of Hans “RAYGUNMAN” Hobert that span the 1950s through the 80s (#2371-2397).
