Item Description
11-1/8x17" thin artboard featuring pen and ink original art w/ink wash by comic book artist Gene Colan and Bob McLeod for first issue of  "The Tomb Of Dracula" comic magazine published by Marvel Comics in Oct. 1979. Main "Dark Genesis" story was written by Marv Wolfman and also featured gorgeous Gothic interior art by Colan and McLeod. Art is for inside front cover illustration featuring full body image of Dracula standing in foggy graveyard, his cape billowing about him as two hands burst forth from the earth in foreground. One of Dracula's Brides can be see standing just behind him, wearing scant nightgown (through which her nipples are visible; a detail that was not pronounced upon publication). The shadowy form of another Bride can be seen behind her. Castle is visible in bkg. A few penciled/inked notations at margins. Top margin has "Dracula" name and staple at upper left, not affecting art. Reverse has some ink strokes and crayoned editorial notes, neither showing through onto front. Page has lt. aging at margins but art is o/w Exc. Comes w/reading copy of the issue this art was produced for. While this art appeared inside the front cover, it is every bit as dynamic as any Dracula comic cover art we've seen and a stunning example of Colan at his best.
