Item Description
Original 5x6-3/8x2.75" box w/illustrated lid contains tin litho space dog measuring 4" wide (from tip to tip of tin ears, 7" long and 4.75" tall w/attached 1" dia. tin litho flying saucer on wire that revolves in circle. Made in Japan by Yoshiya in the late 1950s, this is one of four similar space dogs (red and gray wind-ups as well as remote-controlled blue), this being the only battery-operated w/o remote control. Box lid is wonderfully illustrated and box is complete w/both small cardboard inserts. Lid shows scattered wear w/tape repair on inside of corner split and .75" edge split. Some creases at corners. Fine overall but still displays nicely w/bright colors. Dog is depicted as female, w/blue bow on top of her head. Toy's functions include - dog moves around w/mystery bump-and-go action, has rolling eyes courtesy of plastic beads within plastic bubble eyes, lightbulb under translucent red plastic cover at base of tail lights up, the flying saucer spins around, mouth opens/closes and ears flap. All original (including saucer antenna) and all working. Toy shows just lt. wear w/a few tiny nicks/scratches and is VF/Exc. overall. Classic 1950s space toy. Very rare as boxed.
