Item Description
Two sheets of thin artboard are taped together at middle as produced, combined size measures 26-7/8x20.5". Features Bob Montana pen and ink art for Feb. 23, 1947 Sunday page w/11 panels. Storyline has Archie and Jughead (not wearing his trademark hat) talking about how Archie is attracted to their new teacher, Miss Shapely. Page goes on to show Reggie pouring glue on Archie's chair. Principal Weatherby comes in and tells Archie he's going to be observing the class, so to take another seat, Mr. Weatherby sitting in the glue instead. He sits there all day until Miss Shapely goes home for the night, and then removes his pants to free himself. The last three panels shows Archie and Jughead again in the library, talking about a new model plane Jughead built. Mr. Weatherby overhears Jughead mention a strong glue he used and promptly hauls Jughead away to his office. "Archie" title in first panel is paste-over, rest is original w/exception of small lettering correction paste-over in ninth panel. Art is unsigned but by Archie creator Montana. Complete w/syndicate copyright sticker in last panel. Upper margin has date twice, o/w VF. A prime early example.
