Item Description
See multiple artist jam piece original art #1799. 7.5x11” thin art board has 6x8.5” image area w/India ink portrait of Shel initialed “D.S.”. Art is signed in purple ink at lower left “ Best To Shel From Dave Stevens –Thanx! Aug. 1974”, likely done at San Diego Comic-Con. Scattered areas of white-out on front, applied zip-a-tone background is lightly yellowed. Image area and most of autograph area will frame to Fine/VF appearance. Reverse side has pencil “66%” reduction note for publication, possibly in Con’s program book. Stevens (1955-2008) would begin his professional career in 1975, the year after this drawing was done, inking Russ Manning’s “Tarzan” comic strip. He would go on to greater fame in 1982 w/”The Rocketeer”. Historic art done for a friend who helped Stevens along the way in his early days. From the Charlie Roberts Collection.
