Item Description
11.25x17.5" heavy stock paper has large and impressive 10.5x14.5" image area done in ink and water colors depicting Barbara Gordon as Batgirl. Art includes full body image in costume, head and shoulders portrait in costume and close-up of Barbara Gordon out of costume in in her librarian guise. Text at top reads "Introducing The New Batgirl" and has been signed at lower right in black felt tip pen by Sal Trapani, a comic book artist who worked for DC Comics, doing fantasy, horror and mystery stories throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Trapani has worked on such series as "Doom Patrol, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Teen Titans," and "Superman." He also assisted José Delbo on the "Superman" daily strip in the 1980s. From the mid-1960s, Trapani worked for a variety of publishers, including Dell, Gold Key and Marvel Comics. Trapani has dated lower right corner "Aug 1968," less than a year after Batgirl's debut in "Detective Comics" #359 (Jan., 1967). Holes punches at corners do not affect art. .5" moisture stain along bottom left margin could be easily matted out for an Exc. display. Wonderful and vibrant art. From the collection of Chip Kidd, renowned author, graphic designer and pop culture enthusiast extraordinaire.
