Item Description
Lot of 13, all different in some way. Each is 1" dia. celluloid covered w/pinback. The Cuban League was one of the earliest and longest lasting professional baseball leagues outside of the United States, operating in Cuba from 1878 to 1961. It was the earliest baseball league to be fully racially integrated. All buttons date to the late 1940s and represent the four main teams of the league. Includes unnumbered salesman's samples, individually numbered examples, color and mascot variations. Number of buttons per team are: Habana Lions (5), Almendares Scorpions (4), Marianao Tigers (2), Cienfuegos Elephants (2). Four of the sample buttons, and one other, are complete w/"Whitehead & Hoag Co." backpaper. Samples Exc. to NM, others have varying degress of wear/aging and are VG to Exc. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
