Item Description
2.25" tall overall with embossed brass eagle pin and fabric ribbon holding ornate brass shell frame accented by eagle, flags and ribbons with text below "E Pluribus Unum." The frame's center is a highly raised oval holding a ferrotype 11/16" tall with 1864 Lincoln photo designated by DeWitt as Lincoln portrait #2. The item is a match to DeWitt's 1864-85 except on his example the pin has eagle facing right whereas this example has eagle facing left. The frame is original as issued without any traces of silver flashing on the brass. The emulsion is 99.5% perfect. The only wear is a pinpoint emulsion dot off the side of his nose and four near microscopic dots off left background. The ribbon is intact and original. A wonderful NM example of a very unusual and rare format 1864 ferrotype campaign badge.
