April 9, 1944. 18.5x23" thin art board with 16.5x21.75" India ink image area has "Miss Jones On The War" 3-panel top strip with woman talking about tire inflation. Rest of art board consists of 12 panels with Joe in Army uniform driving to war plant and picking up young hitchhiker who wants to join the Service at age 15. Joe explains to the lad that he's too young for the Service but he can do war work in his spare time while he gets an education. Art is signed by creator Ham Fisher at upper left in Miss Jones title panel and also in last panel of Palooka portion. Art board consists of two pieces joined together between center panels by clear tape on reverse. Board has numerous color notations for engraver, some lt. dust soil an lt. tanning between second and third tier of Palooka portion. Most of image area is Fine/VF. Complete with McNaught Syndicate Inc. sticker in last panel. A well-drawn example of what was at the time one of America's favorite comic strips.
