Item Description
Lot of 3 pieces of original editorial cartoon art c. early-mid 1940s. All are in pen and ink and charcoal. First piece is 14x17.25" and shows "Back From The Dnieper" art by Jack Boothe which shows Adolph Hitler returning from a fishing trip w/line full of garbage reading "Successful Disengagement, Fluid Defense, Line Shortening, Elastic Defense" to which "Germania" family he returns to says "Did You Catch Those All By Yourself Or Did Someone Help You?" Second piece is 11.5x14.5" and is titled "Air Umbrella Over Germany" by Paul Plaschke of "The Chicago Herald Examiner." Art depicts Hermann Goering opening umbrella missing most of its protective covering to shield rain off of him and bystanding man who says "Donner Wetter!" and small Plaschke caricature says "You're All Wet Hermann." Last piece is 16x20.5" and shows Hitler and Tojo reacting to "Warning To Neutrals - Do Not Harbor Escaping Axis Criminals Signed - FDR-W.C." newspaper headline as hanging Mussolini portrait reacts on wall as well. Art appears to be signed by William Summers. This last piece has been folded but as all pieces have been matted for display, displays VF. Others display Exc.
