Item Description
Lot of 3 pieces of original editorial cartoon art c. early-mid 1940s. All are single-panel pen and ink and/or charcoal cartoons on thin drawing boards. First is 13.75x16.25". Art by Claude Shaffer for the "Cincinnati (Ohio) Times-Star" newspaper, titled "Reaping The Whirlwind" and shows a terrified-looking Hitler running away from cyclone with "Round The Clock Bombing" text. Second is 15.25x19.75" by Orson Lowell for the "New Rochelle," NY. newspaper and is titled "New Crosses For Old." Art shows Hitler, Goering, Goebbels saluting newly constructed swastika sign, each arm of swastika reading "Barbarism, Hatred, Paganism, Slavery." Storm brews in bkg. w/lightning flashes and "World Opinion" text. Last piece is 15.25x18" by Paul Berdanier and was distributed by United Features Syndicate. "The Line Up" art depicts "Stalin" pointing at line up of Tojo and Hitler who are handcuffed together w/nooses behind them, Stalin says "Those Are The Guys!" 1.75x2.5" "6th War Loan" paste-over and UFS paste-over at bottom. All have been matted w/matching mats, artist name at top of last and each w/cartoon title at bottom. All display Exc.
