Item Description
Complete set of 33 artboards w/pen and ink original art by noted comic artist Kurt Schaffenberger (1920-2002), best known for his work on Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family (during both the Golden Age and Silver Age of comics), as well as his work on the title "Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane" during the 1950s and 1960s. Art is for "Classic Illustrated Junior" #516, published by Gilberton, 1953. 28 14.5x23" artboards feature entire "Aladdin And His Lamp" main feature story art. Comes w/smaller 15x20" heavy artboard will full page illustration of Aladdin and Genie w/"Aladdin Lamp 4th Cover" handwritten text at bottom center and "Make Same As Page 22 Of Inside Art For Costume And Other Color" note in blue pencil at upper right. Three 14.5x23" artboards have complete "Aesop's Fables - The Boy And The Wolf" story. Heavier 15x20" artboard has "The Fat Man Of Bombay" and "Wee Willie Winkie" single-panel illustrated short stories feature art by Alex Blum. 14-7/8x22" artboard has informative text and illustrations about the sperm whale w/five wildlife illustrations by William Walsh. This artboard shows obvious margin wear w/margin tears (one at top extending into text), chips (largest being 1.5x2" triangular piece out of upper left), corner wear, etc. Heavy diagonal crease across bottom, w/some surface paper splits. This artboard is Good/VG overall but art remains clean and VF. Other artboards show scattered edge/corner tip wear w/some scattered aging/dust soiling. Most Fine overall w/clean art that is VF to Exc.
