Item Description
21.25x25.25" frame holds wonderful original art cover recreation for "Flash Comics" #19 (July 1941) featuring Golden Age Hawkman soaring to the rescue of Shiera Saunders (who had appeared for the first time as Hawkgirl a month prior in "All Star Comics" #5) from evil knight. Art was recreated by the original cover artist - Sheldon "Shelly" Moldoff (1920-2012), who was Bob Kane's first assistant on "Batman" and became a premiere Golden Age artist drawing Hawkman. Beautifully painted cover recreation is further enhanced by crafted custom mat created by artist Dan Makara, featuring clipped images from various comic panels showing Golden Age Flash and supporting characters. Custom frame also features a collage style utilizing various comic panels from 1940s issue of "Flash Comics," featuring images of Hawkman, Hawkgirl and a few other members of the Justice Society of America. Moldoff has signed art at lower left and bottom center of frame has engraved metal plaque w/Moldoff's name. Exc. Dan Makara Collection.
