Item Description
Cartoonist Gahan Wilson's cartoons and illustrations are drawn in a playfully grotesque style and have a dark humor that is often compared to the work of "Addams Family" creator Charles Addams. Inspired by the irreverent work of the various satiric "Mad" and "Punch cartoonists," as well as 1950s sci-fi monster films, his cartoons and prose fiction appeared regularly in "Playboy, Collier's" and "The New Yorker" for almost 50 years. Offered here is an pen and ink original art for cartoon w/nicely done watercoloring on 9.25x11.25" artboard showing bandit emerging from water barrel and shooting man in back of the neck, blowing the top of his head off in a spray of blood and teeth. Art is for an unknown publication and features penciled printer notations on reverse. Artboard has scattered margin aging and tiny faint spot of moisture at top center, o/w art is clean and Exc.
