Item Description
Two thin art boards fit together to form 16-1/8x20-3/8” India ink image area w/12 panels. Barney comes to visit w/some railroad news and is greeted by Lowizy at cabin. He goes inside to relax and a bullet comes through window knocking off his hat. Lowizy gets a rifle and goes out w/Barney to “Fetch A Bucket O’ Warter”. She opens fire on what she thinks are “Revenoo Critters” but accidentally shoots Snuffy by mistake. They all go inside to eat. Snuffy angrily sits on a pillow and tells Barney he craves his company when he’s done “Pawin’ Over Them Vittles”. Signed in ink “DeBeck” in panel 12. Complete w/King Features copyright label. Margins have lt. aging, image area will frame to Exc. appearance. Funny and well-drawn prime early example done within a year of Snuffy Smith and family’s first appearance. The strip would eventually become “Snuffy Smith” and “Lowizy” would become “Loweezy”. Barney is in all 12 panels. From the Schechter Family Collection.
