Item Description
3-3/16x5.25" unlined textured cardstock card has black ink signature of pitcher Walter Johnson, who has added "Washington D.C. - Nov. 22, 1926" inscription/date. Johnson played his entire 21-year baseball career for the Washington Senators (1907–1927), later serving as the Senators manager from 1929 through 1932 before moving on to manage the Cleveland Indians from 1933 through 1935. One of the most celebrated and dominating players in baseball history, Johnson established several pitching records, some of which remain unbroken. He remains by far the all-time career leader in shutouts w/110, second in wins w/417, and fourth in complete games w/531. He once held the career record in strikeouts w/3,508 and was the only player in the 3,000 strikeout club for over 50 years. Johnson led the league in strikeouts a Major League record 12 times (one more than current strikeout leader Nolan Ryan), including a record eight consecutive seasons. Johnson was one of the first five players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936, inducted alongside Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner, they were known as the "Five Immortals." Card has small inked "8" at lower left and small spot of ink at lower right, neither affecting signature or inscription, which remain Exc. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
