Item Description
11x14" lobby card for the original release of the 1935 Universal horror film "Werewolf Of London," the first Hollywood mainstream werewolf movie. Starring Henry Hull and featuring make-up legend Jack Pierce's eerie werewolf make-up, a precursor to his iconic make-up for Lon Chaney, Jr., in "The Wolf Man" six years later. Card features Hull along w/his female co-star Valerie Hobson (of "Bride Of Frankenstein" fame) to left of large central image of Hull in his snarling werewolf guise. Hull is again seen at right, standing by a Tibetan guide w/gun drawn. Marquee image at left features a ghost-like werewolf image floating in the London night sky w/a bat flying by Big Ben below. This same image is also featured on following items #2450-2454. This card has some margin handling wear w/archival tape reinforcement added on back to bottom right corner. Other corners have some small creases. Card is evenly aged w/some scattered margin soiling. Fine overall, but could be matted for a VF/Exc. display. Next to the title card for this film, this card is the most sought after in the set. All promotional material for this film is rare and desirable.

Upon further research, it appears as though this is actually the rarest card in the set, even more so than the title card. We have found several auction sales for the title card (for as much as $16,000) but know of no other examples of this card having sold at auction. It is also very important to note that this is the best card featuring the Werewolf, on this card it is the central image appearing bold and ominous. While another portrait image is shown on the title card, it is partially obscured by the film's title.
