Item Description
Lot of three 11x14" lobby cards for the 1935 film "She," produced by Merian C. Cooper, the director responsible for the 1933 classic "King Kong." Based on H. Rider Haggard's novel of the same name, the screenplay for "She" combines elements from all the books in the series - "She, She And Allan, Ayesha: The Return Of She" and "Wisdom's Daughter." The ancient civilization of Kor is depicted in an Art Deco style w/imaginative special effects. The film starred Helen Gahagan, Randolph Scott and Nigel Bruce. It was hoped that "She" would follow the success of "King Kong" as Cooper had originally intended to shoot the film in color, but budget cuts by RKO forced him to shoot the film in bw at the last minute. Offered here are three cards from the original 1935 release, each w/"Merian C. Cooper - Creator Of 'King Kong' Startles The World Again!" text at left. Cards show Bruce and Gahagan amidst Kor society, men falling from high rock and Bruce being captured by Kor natives. First card has 3x3" area of moisture staining at upper right, though this is only really noticeable at margins and on back. Fine. Second card has archival tape repairs on reverse to 1", 1.5" and 3.25" tears. Card has heavy diagonal crease that runs through title. VG. Last card has 1/8x3/8" tip off upper left corner w/5/8" corner piece reattached w/archival tape on reverse. VG/Fine, but card image could be matted for a nice display. All promotional material for this film is rare.
