Item Description
6.5x26” thin artboard has 5-3/8x24-7/8” India ink image area w/four panels for April 4. Storyline involves cast getting ready to go home w/pretty blonde in panel one helping injured Roy. Slim and Spud are overjoyed about going home in panel two as panther watches w/question mark over his head. Panel three has natives bringing in man w/jungle fever and message from Princess. Massah gives him water in panel four. Last panel is signed in ink “Lyman Young”, w/additional ink inscription “Best Wishes To Lloyd From Tim Tyler And Lyman Young”. Lyman Young was the brother of “Blondie” cartoonist Chic Young. Panel three has King Features © strip. Reverse side has pencil title “The Enchanted Messenger”. Lt. vertical crease in blank area between center panels as mailed, last panel has lt. creasing, left and right blank margin edges have light wear. Image area Fine/VF. Well drawn example, including nice blue pencil shading, by Alex Raymond who ghosted the Tim Tyler daily and Sunday comic strip from late 1931 to 1933 when he left to work on “Secret Agent X-9” and “Flash Gordon”. Art was given to fellow cartoonist Sam Lloyd Hutchinson, noted for creating Parky the Kangaroo.
