Item Description
6x21" strip of thin artboard has original pen and ink illustration w/screentone shading. Original art by Al Plastino (1921-2013), best known as one of the most prolific Superman artists of the 1950s, along w/his DC Comics colleague Wayne Boring. Plastino also worked as a comics writer, editor, letterer and colorist, co-creating Supergirl and Braniac w/Otto Binder, as well as The Legion of Super-Heroes. Art is dated April 9, 1969 and has National Periodical Publications, Inc. copyright strip between second and third panels. The Ledger Syndicate, Inc. distributor strip appears between first and second panels. Story was written by Whitney Ellsworth, the first writer on the "Batman" newspaper strip, which appeared first on Sundays and later on weekdays, w/Ellsworth writing the strip between 1966 and 1970. Three panel strip offered here features the then relatively new character of Batgirl in all three panels, where she unsuccessfully tries to hitchhike and mentions Batman twice. Strip has some lt. aging and pinholes across top margin. Bottom margin is slightly uneven. VF overall.
