Item Description
16x24" thin Strathmore artboard has original pen and ink Sunday page art for June 13, 1937 by George Herriman. Total of eight panels, first panel has patent strip while last panel has 1937 King Features Syndicate, Inc. copyright strip. Story deals w/Ignatz telling Offisa Pupp about how jailers of old dug moats around their jails, which Offisa Pupp thinks is a grand idea. Ignatz is quite proud of himself, and Krazy Kat (who appears in just one panel) comments that he's "Bitzy As A Boid Dag Buildin' A Nesk." Mrs. Kwakk Wakk the duck wanders by as Offisa Pupp digs his moat, commenting that all he needs now is water to fill it. He heads to the "Coconino County Water Co." to see the president of the company about getting some water. The president's mouse secretary informs him that she'll let him know when the president (Ignatz can be seen through open door marked "Ignatz Mouse - Pres. - Private" w/his feet up on desk and smoking cigar) is available. Last panel shows Offisa Pupp trudging pails of water to his moat as Ignatz keep a ledger of his nearly 10,000 trips. Ignatz appears in six of the eight panels, Offisa Pupp in seven. Signed in ink "Herriman" in bottom panel. Artboard has some lt. margin aging but art remains bright and clean and is o/w Exc. Wonderful "Krazy Kat" page. From the Jan Wahl Collection.
