Item Description
30x40.75" linen-mounted poster featuring Canadian magician, illusionist and escape artist Doug Henning suspended upside down in a tank of water, his hands chained and w/two smaller female assistants at sides of tank. Following his Broadway success w/the Tony-nominated "The Magic Show," Henning approached NBC about producing a TV special where he would reproduce Harry Houdini's famous and highly dangerous water torture escape (for the first time since Houdini performed it himself) live. Henning spent the next eight months reworking his stage act for TV and practicing the water torture escape act. More than 50 million viewers tuned in for the Dec. 26, 1975 broadcast of "Doug Henning's World of Magic" where Henning successfully performed the water torture illusion, although Houdini's time record remained intact. The poster touts "Remember: This Will Be A 'Live' Broadcast Of A Breathtaking Feat Never Attempted Before Under These Circumstances." Poster has tiny 1/8" nick at top right margin but is o/w NM as linen-mounted.
