Item Description
3.5x5.5" postcard for Sept. 3, 1906 boxing match that took place in Goldfield, NV. Postcard features photo portrait images of both "Battling Nelson" and Gans w/"Here They Are - Who Do You Like?" text. This match was one of the most legendary championship fights between two of the greatest lightweights to ever step into the ring. Gans and Nelson battled for Gans' Lightweight title. The bout itself lasted an astounding 48 rounds. Nelson delivered a low blow in the 48th round and was disqualified making Gans the winner by default. Gans was the first African-American World Boxing Champion, reigning continuously as World Lightweight Champion from 1902 to 1908. Postcard has lt. wear at corners and has trace of penciling on reverse. Image of President William McKinley on reverse. Fine.
