Item Description
19.25x24.5” high quality wood frame has double archival mat w/11.25x17.25” opening. Wonderful India ink art has caricatures of 15 different dealers. Bob Overstreet is holding his price guide at the far right, Bruce Hamilton is at the far left holding a bag of money. Russ Cochran is holding a Frazetta portfolio in one hand and an EC portfolio in the other. Phil Seuling, Steve Geppi, Don Phelps, Dale Manesis, and Irving Bigman are also in the scene. Artist Newton has drawn himself reading a “Rulah” comic in front of a table w/boy using ray gun nearby. At the lower right is a rat character named “Arnie the Rat” holding a “Catman” comic. Arnie was a comic book thief known to all the dealers. Lower left has paste-up ink signature “Newton-72” w/printed caption across bottom. Image area otherwise Exc. Don Newton (1939-1984) did art for some 100 comic fandom publications, including 20+ covers for “RBCC” and worked w/Joe Rubenstein for the 1983 cover to “The Overstreet Comic Price Guide” #13. He was friends w/C.C. Beck and did several Captain Marvel/Marvel Family stories. Notable professional work included Green Lantern, Batman and Aquaman for DC, and The Phantom for Charlton. Art is a great piece of comic book collecting history from a more innocent time. Ready for display. From the Robert M. Overstreet Collection. Comes w/COA.
