Item Description
Both are high quality, printed in gray tones on cream colored paper. Both are undated. First is 16.75x23” from 1958 titled “For Christmas Gifts The Print Club Philadelphia” w/ Santa as psychiatrist listening to young mans problems. Background wall has images of famous paintings, but w/Santa replacing famous subjects. Poster was done in conjunction w/Roth’s very first one man exhibit. Lt. creasing, blank margins have a few tears. Will mat and frame to Fine appearance. Second poster is 17x20” w/detailed scene titled “A Disproportionate Map of Points of Literary Interest in Philadelphia” w/locations text list at right. 1970s. Bottom margin is boldly signed in ink “Arnold Roth”. Minor rippling VF. Comes w/Hake's COA. Roth’s achievements include: “Poor Arnold’s Almanac” comic strip, magazine illustrations, book dust jackets, record album covers, etc. He won the N.C.S. Reuben award in 1984, and was voted Best Sports Cartoonist in 1976-77 and Best Illustrator Cartoonist in the 1970s and 1980s.
