Item Description
Covers are dark brown leather 2.5" wide by 3.25" tall with a reverse flap and narrow extension that fits into a slot. Between the covers, the sides are made of what may be cream colored sheep's skin folded accordion style and designed to pull open to access a pair of compartments lined in dark green cardboard with a divider of the same material. The front of the purse has a 2" dia. brass rim holding a glass cover over a steel engraving style paper portrait. The reverse of the purse is surrounded by an upside down horseshoe shaped brass edge. Light general wear but the only defect is a few tiny pieces of leather off the upper left edge of the reverse flap. The only example known to us and rarer than the sought after snuff boxes of this era. From the Philip G. Straus Collection.
