Item Description
6.75x11" portion of newspaper page is titled "The Fast And Hard Hitting Out Field Of The A.B.C. Ball Team". Includes photos of right fielder Jim Jeffries, left fielder George Shively, and center fielder Oscar Charleston. Text in center "This Trio Of Outer Gardeners Look To Be The Best In The Game. The ABC Twirlers Can "Let 'Em Hit 'Em Out" And These Speeders With Pull 'Em Down." Text below mentions "A.B.C.'s And Cubans To Play Benefit Game July 1." noting owner Thomas Bowser of the "Crack Colored Team" will turn over game receipts to the charity hospital fund. Clipping is lightly but evenly tanned. Top margin edge has .25x.5" piece missing. Lower left corner has three small tears caused when encapsulated. Still displays nicely w/bold images. Sports writers dubbed Charleston as the "Black Ty Cobb", and he is considered to be one of the best players in baseball history. This clipping is from the first year of his baseball career making it an incredibly important and historic piece for this National Baseball HOF member.
