Item Description
First 19 of probable 30 strips of comic book story titled "The Mystery Of The Missing Body", second story published in Jan.-Feb. 1948 issue #1 of "The Lone Ranger" Dell comic book. Comes with printed comic. Dates are 7/21/41 - 8-11-41. Each thin art board is approx. 7.25x26.25" with 5.75x24.75" India ink image area. All are signed in ink at bottom of one panel by long-time Lone Ranger artist Charles Flanders and all but one are also signed in blank margin "OK Trendle." George Trendle created the Lone Ranger with writer Fran Striker in Jan. 1933. The Lone Ranger is in 43 panels and Tonto is in 25 panels. Storyline has girl shooting at the Lone Ranger believing that he killed her father because he has her father's horse. The law shows up and the Lone Ranger escapes but Tonto is captured. The sheriff finds the Lone Ranger and attempts to arrest him but the Lone Ranger asks for proof that he was involved in the killing. Meanwhile the girl's father's body disappears so the Lone Ranger and Tonto are free to go. While the father's will is being read Tonto and the Lone Ranger get tied up and somebody attempts to kill the dead man's children. Last strip has the Lone Ranger telling girl "Tonto And I Are Guarding Your House". Applied zipatone dot pattern used for shading has yellowed with age and is missing in a few pieces leaving glue stains. Art otherwise Fine/VF. Superb art, well drawn throughout. Comic book has 2" spine split at top with some tanning a few moisture marks around margin edges. Cover is Fair/Good. Inside is VG+. Interesting to compare original art with printed color version. Images of all strips are online.
