Item Description
All items are related to appearances at Jules Podell’s Copacabana Nightclub. Pair of “General Artists Corporation” contracts, one from September 1961 and the other from September 1963 are photocopies with 1962 contract noting payment of $950 and 1963 contract noting payment of $2000. 1962 contract has attached “Rider For Individual Artist Agreement” carbon copy which has been signed in blue pencil by Wayne Newton’s brother “Jerry P. Newton”. Contracts come with separate onionskin rider which has been signed in blue pencil “Wayne Newton”. Group also includes 8x10" bw glossy of Newton and four page folder promoting show opening December 5 featuring “Myron Cohen/Wayne Newton And The Newton Bros.”. Group has a few handling creases and trace of lt. wear here and there but overall Fine/VF. Wayne Newton and his brother Jerry began singing early on as the Rascals In Rhythm and appeared on the Grand Ole Opry road shows and on NBC-TV’s Ozark Jubilee. They first performed on the Jackie Gleason Show in September 1962 which would coincide with the date of this first contract. The rest as they say, is history. From the archives of Jules Podell, former owner of New York nightclub Copacabana. Comes with Hake’s COA.
