Item Description
Lot of 4 single panel original pen and ink/charcoal cartoons (one in full color). First is 11x13" by "Philadelphia Bulletin" cartoonist Franklin O. Alexander and shows football tackle - CIA, State Dept., Lodge, Diem and JFK all labeled as players. Spectator in crowd asks "Who's Recovered The Fumble?" Deals w/heightening problems in Vietnam. Exc. Second cartoon is 11x14" titled "Giddyup!" by Herc Ficklen. Art depicts JFK wearing "New Frontier" cowboy hat w/arrow through it riding exhausted donkey from 1962 in distant mountains past a "1963" road sign. Lt. handling wear to margins. VF. Next is 9x12" titled "Somehow This Ain't Working Out Like I Planned" by "Dallas Times Herald" cartoonist Robert Taylor. Shows JFK as cowboy struggling up hill carrying "Business" horse to "Economy Balance" uphill. Exc. Last piece is 12.25x15" and features full color art by "Chicago Tribune" cartoonist Carey Orr. Titled "Dangerous Hombre - Beware." Shows "Dem." Democratic donkey as western bandit shooting holes in anthropomorphic dollar which has "Value Of The Dollar" text w/fallen "Your Savings" in foreground. Gun is labeled "Kennedy Spending Schemes." Exc. First, third and fourth cartoons come w/matching mats w/cartoon title label at bottom and cartoonist name at top. All early 1960s.
