Item Description
7.75x10.25". 92 pages. ©1941 Scribners. Cover page reads "To The Dogs And Back/A Satire With Teeth In It/Written And Illustrated By D.T. Carlisle." Introduction explains "When The Last Of The Men Had Gone, The World Went To The Dogs. Though The Dogs Were Not Next Of Kin, They Had Been Man's Best Friends, And Anyway, None Of The Nearer Relatives Cared To Contest The Will." Cleverly written satire which follows the life of Oliver Airedale who bears a striking resemblance to that of FDR. Well written and illustrated, the world of "Dogdom" parallels that of the build-up to WWII. Dogdom's villain "Der Pootsch" is a direct Adolph Hitler-inspired character. The patch/symbol that represents him is a stylized swastika made up of four dog hind legs. Events discussed are identified as dates in American history with a "1" added to the front of the date, ie. 1915 becomes 11915 etc. The story ends with "Der Pootsch" being run off by Airedale and his friends. The final line reads "Otherwise The World At That Time Might Easily Have Gone To The Apes." Amusing and enlightening. Dust jacket with extensive wear. 2x7" back is missing. Dust jacket Good. Book shows light wear. VF. Contents Exc.
