Item Description
Sock-a-Bye, Baby was a Fleshier Studios Popeye animated short, released Jan. 19, 1934 by Paramount Pictures. Short dealt w/Popeye babysitting, w/baby (in uncredited role by Betty Boop/Popeye voice actress Mae Questel) unable to keep quiet unless asleep. A series of hijinks keep the irritable infant awake and crying causing Popeye to quite literally zipper up the child's mouth, as seen in the original production pencil drawing offered here. 8.5x11" sheet of animation paper marked "57" has image area measuring 4x6-3/8", showing Popeye from waist up, holding baby, who reacts in surprise to zippered mouth. Sheet is evenly aged and right margin has 3/8x1" piece removed. Art is o/w clean and Exc.
