Item Description
7x13.5" die-cut cardboard display contains four (of 12) 2.25" long hard plastic whistles attached by metal hanging loops. ©1940 Fawcett Publications Inc. Originally sold for 10¢ a piece as noted by pricing on display. Display has die-cut hole at top for hanging. Features great full figure image of Captain Marvel (wearing tunic w/button flap on right shoulder; after Whiz Comics #2, his costume was changed to look less like a soldier's uniform) holding a siren w/inset image of Whiz Comics #3. Display reads "The World's Mightiest Whistle - Used By The World's Mightiest Man." Each whistle originally had "Captain Marvel Power Siren" name on side, but this text was very susceptible to wear; of the four here, two retain traces of text while other two bear none. One w/trace of text has .5" hairline crack. Power Sirens are VG to Fine overall. Display shows some aging and scattered edge wear w/pin holes and ring oxidation from buttons that were once displayed on surface, w/.75" surface paper tear. Small spot of penciling at top. Fine overall. Very rare w/only a few examples of this early Captain Marvel display are known. Harry Matetsky Collection & Shazam! Kidd/Spear Book Photo Example.
