Item Description
Five issues from December 1921 and January, May, June and August 1922. Large format, 9.5x12.5" magazines each with 96 to 128 pages titled "The Novelty News" published by industry leader Henry S. Bunting. About one-third of each issue explains science of the use of premiums as an incentive for business building with news of and suggestions for use of the "specialty" in advertising. Other two-thirds of content is advertising from makers of products suitable as premiums. Most ads are illustrated and range from full page on down. A tremendous variety of objects are shown. A sampling includes: "Hot Flash" peanut vending machine, celluloid items, Imperial Knife Company, cigarette cases, Effanbee dolls, Imperial dolls, cameras, clocks, Peter Rabbit books, Ronson Repeater (gun) lighter, arcade toy yellow cab, Barney Google's "Sparky" doll, all sorts of household items. A few small tears on covers and spines. One cover loose, but otherwise sound bindings and overall Fine. A scarce publication and fascinating pictorial documentation of consumerism in early 1920s America.
