Item Description
Trimmed 11x13" artboard w/pen and ink original art for cover to Buck Rogers #6, the last in a short-lived series of comic books published by Eastern Color from 1940-1943. Cover features action-packed scene showing jetpack-wearing Buck Rogers in midair battle w/devil-like character w/warplane visible in bkg. Art is by Steve Douglas and has been signed at bottom, Douglas adding "40" date. Art has been inscribed to the artist by Buck Rogers' first comic artist Dick Calkins, reading "To Steve Douglas (Who Drew It) - Best Regards - Dick Calkins." Artboard has been trimmed, removing top portion which would have included pasted title stat; some glue staining from stat is visible along top margin. Left margin has also been trimmed as full warplane was visible on published cover. The published comic also featured less of Buck's lowermost foot, likely an editorial decision to remove the artist's name from the published comic. Artboard is evenly aged and has three faint horizontal creases, mainly visible on back. Some minor scattered soiling. VG/Fine overall. The printed comic books in this series are relatively scarce; original cover art is virtually non-existent, this just the second example we've offered in our 55 years. Gene Seger Buck Rogers Collection.
