Item Description
1.25". No maker. A precursor to the PM1 pin series issued in 1915. This is from one year prior but features the same image of Frank Chance batting that would appear on his PM1. However, instead of his last name under the image as on the PM1, this has "Braves" and also includes 1914 date to his left and right. However, Chance never played for the Braves. Perhaps the manufacturer had this image in-house and just decided to use it on the fly in order to get a pin out right after the Braves won the 1914 World Series. Or it is a simple factory error. No matter what, it does lead into what would become the PM1 set. The brass shell frame also differs from the PM1 series, this is heart shaped and includes four-leaf clovers. Inset celluloid disc.  Spot of oxidation on the metal back. Otherwise just lt. trace of age. VF. An early baseball oddity. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
