Item Description
Trio of approx. 10.5x15.75" artboards featuring pen and ink original art for pages 25-26 and 29 from Star-Spangled War Stories #204, published by DC Comics March 1977. Art is by Dick Ayers (1924-2014), a comic artist best known for his work as one of Jack Kirby's inkers during the Silver Age of Comics and for his 10 year run on Marvel's World War II comic Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos. Art is for A Walk Up The Hill Civil War story and has been inked by Bob McLeod. Story deals w/sight-impaired youth leading Confederate charge in battle under fire, getting final revenge on a mean-spirited Union soldier he knew. Confederate battle flag is seen in eight panels. Each artboard has inked title and issue/page numbers at top margins and each has been signed at top in black felt tip pen by McLeod. Aged strip of tape at top/bottom center margin on each, not affecting art. Page 26 has replacement strip of text w/tape on back at bottom center and thin strip of staining at bottom right corner. Page 29 also has replaced strip of text w/tape on back and piece of tape w/small spot of staining at bottom right. Backs have Marvel copyright inkstamps. Art remains clean and Exc.
