Item Description
Three 14.25x22.5" artboards feature pen and ink original art for pages 15-16 and 18 from Speed Comics, published by Harvey Sept. 1943. Art is by Bob Powell (1916-1967), a comic artist known for his work during the Golden Age of comics, including Sheena, Queen of the Jungle and Mr. Mystic. Powell also did the pencil art for the iconic bubble gum trading card series Mars Attacks. Art is from Black Cat Treason storyline and features great action-packed scenes of Black Cat sabotaging artillery on a speeding Nazi war train before diving off bridge and returning to her room, where she is "woken" by Nazi general who thinks her a traitor to the Allied cause. Last page shows Black Cat's civilian alter-ego Linda Turner returning in German Junkers Ju 87 "Stuka" aircraft. It is then revealed Turner's branding as a traitor was a ploy to get her close to the Germans so she could spy. Each artboard has "Sept. Speed" and page number in red ink at bottom right. First artboard has some blue pencil editorial notations at top margin. Some scattered dust soiling to margins, but art remains clean and VF to Exc. Comic not included.
