Item Description
10.25x14-7/8" artboard has mixed media original art by Turkish comic artist Özcan Eralp (1935-2019). Cover is for the Spanish edition of "El Hombre Enmascarado" #36, which was published in Spain by Valenciana as part of their Del Colosos Comic line in 1980. Artboard has image area measuring 9x12-7/8" showing art for "The Hieroglyphic Murders" cover story by Donne Avenell, w/The Phantom posing w/smoking gun in front of hooded cultists, skulls and large hooded skull w/one remaining eye. Eralp also provided the interior art for this comic book. Top margin has handwritten "Hombre Enmascarado" title and "No. 36" designation. Art has worn vellum overlay w/aged tape at top which has since come loose. Artboard has some creasing at lower left and lt. rippling from paint, but art remains bright, clean and Exc. A great example from Eralp, who worked on Spanish Phantom comics from 1970 up to 1991, both writing and illustrating. Unique. Cover and contents were exclusive to the Spanish market and saw no US counterpart. Comes w/reading copy of the comic this cover art was created for.
