Item Description
This item and a handful of additional lead proofs and prototype badges (see previous item) came into the premium hobby in the late 1970s via a man who worked for Robbins Co. of Attleboro, MA, famed for producing various premiums. Offered here is a 1/16" thick piece of lead, measuring 1.5x2.5". It came from the Robbins factory and was produced by striking the die on a lead sheet so the design could be seen as flawless before production began on the General Mill test premium Jack Armstrong badge offered in 1940. The back of the piece has a hand scratched production number "M6685." The front of the piece has raised image in lead of the badge. One-of-a-kind. Comes w/1-3/8" tall production example of the badge w/folded under arch-shaped piece on reverse. Front has "Captain - Jack Armstrong Listening Squad" name w/small hole below, which was apparently to serve as an opening for whistle. Issued w/o pin. This is brass luster version, which shows moderate wear and is Fine overall. Very limited quantities of this piece were actually distributed. Both are the actual examples shown in "The Official Price Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia" by Ted Hake and comes with COA.
