Item Description
Large and impressive 23x28.5" frame contains mixed media original art of Red Ryder and his horse Thunder w/Little Beaver and Po-Ko by "Red Ryder" creator Fred Harman. Art was professionally double-matted was presented to young boy named Thayer, who started his own Red Ryder Club before an official one was formed. Word balloons from each character note club, w/Po-Ko crying as she comments on the club's "No Girls Allowed" rule. Art has banner text at bottom that reads "To Thayer Who Started The First Red Ryder Club - From Red Ryder, Little Beaver, Po-Ko, Steve And Fred." Steve refers to Stephen Slesinger, who promoted the "Red Ryder" comic strip. Wax seal w/"RR' brand and ribbon appears at lower right, along w/additional branding iron images. Art was created in 1939 and lower right has cut-out in mat for Harman's signature. Exc. Dan Makara Collection.
