Item Description
15.5x23" artboard features 11 panels of pen and ink original art by "Archie" co-creator Bob Montana. Art is for the May 21, 1950 Sunday page and features Archie and Jughead at the circus. Jughead has spent all their money on cotton candy, so Archie announces he's he won't be denied and plans on sneaking into the show. He proceeds to be scared by a roaring lion and gets stuck between two elephants before getting caught. Last panel shows Jughead dressed as outlandish clown w/circus cast, asking "Aren't You Staying For The Show, Arch?" Archie appears in every panel, Jughead appears in first three and last. First panel has smaller "Archie" title paste-over which has some staining. Montana has signed below this and dated second to last panel, which also has McClure Newspaper Syndicate paste-over. Large date inkstamp on back. Pin holes at top corners. Stamped date at upper left and lead pencil date at upper right margin. Some scattered staining to title and fourth panels but o/w art is Fine/VF.
