Item Description
Original corrugated plastic shipping folder contains textured paper portfolio w/matching inner sleeve (both w/illustrated "Record Art" sticker seal) that contains 12 high quality lithographs, each being 22.5x26.5" and printed on Quintessence 100lb dull cover acid free paper. Complete set from a limited edition of 200, published by Record Art in 1991 and comes w/original sale brochure for these lithographs and 63 page softcover book w/introduction by Jimmy Page and the reminiscences of the artists and musicians as well as images of each album cover featured on the lithographs. Out of the 200 sets made, a number were gifted to artists, museums and other institutions and the rest were sold to the public. This is the very first set, each lithograph being hand-numbered "1/200" at lower left w/artist's signature in pencil at lower right. All have been hand-signed w/exception of Bob Dylan, who provided as self portrait for his aptly name 1970 album "Self Portrait." Dylan's signature is plated-signed whereas all others are hand-signed. Album artists/musicians featured include - Bob Jones (Elvis Presley - "50,000,000 Elvis Fans"), Kosh (The Eagles - "Hotel California"), H.R. Giger (ELP - "Brain Salad Surgery"), Mati Klarwien (Santana - "Abraxas"), Mick Haggerty (Supertramp - "Breakfast In America"), Martin Sharp (Cream - "Disraeli Gears"), Margo Nahas (Stevie Wonder - "The Secret Life Of Plants"), George Hardie (Led Zeppelin - "Led Zeppelin"), Bob Seidemann (Blind Faith - "Blind Faith"), Tony Wright (Traffic - "Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys"), Tony Wright (Steve Winwood - "Arc Of A Diver") and the aforementioned Bob Dylan lithograph. Of note, the "Blind Faith" lithograph features Seidemann's original cover image, which garnered controversy as it features a topless pubescent girl, holding in her hands a silver spaceship which some perceived as a phallic symbol. A few lithographs show some scattered handling wear (both Tony Wright examples; the Traffic lithograph shows more moderate wear and is Fine/VF), but majority are Exc. to NM. Rare, this is the first set we have seen come to auction.
