Item Description
Sheepskin leather w/wool interior D-1 Type jacket worn by bomber mechanic. 1940s. Size medium as stated on inside label which also has "Type D-1" text and manufacturer's initials. Has fully painted "Dakota Queen" nude woman in high heels on back of jacket. This most likely matched the bomber nose art of the plane the mechanic was assigned to. Sleeve has painted "Army Air Forces" text and insignia. Front has 19 small "Bomb" images, the number of missions this plane flew. Jacket has wear in the form of flaking of the outer leather surface, mostly concentrated on sleeves and one front side. Art on back has minimal wear, not overly affecting art aside from a bit of flaking on the last two letters of "Dakota." Overall still Fine for this type of jacket, most seen are in lesser condition. Great piece to display w/other World War II aviation material.
