Item Description
Interesting hand-painted floor ashtray made from steel bomb casing on wooden base, standing 26" tall overall (30" tall to top of metal handle). Done in patriotic colors w/hand-painted "Quonset - 1944" text at top, Navy eagle insignia at middle and stars and waves on fins, that are attached to weighted metal block painted w/stars and a ship's propeller on three sides. The Davisville Navel Construction Battalion Center at Quonset Point, RI was the manufacturing facility for Quonset huts during World War II. This impressive piece most likely sat in their front office or perhaps in the officer's club. Interior has heavy oxidation and exterior has some scattered paint flaking w/trace oxidation. Still Fine for display. Unique and the first we've seen of an item of this type in our 52 years.
