Item Description
1" tall unmarked red paper covered cardboard box contains velvet fabric liner to hold the ring in position. Box was used to send rings from "The Spider" pulp magazine publisher Popular Publications to those readers ordering either "The Spider" or "Operator 5" rings in 1934. Box exhibits some corner tip/edge wear but retains it shape and has no splits. Underside of box has small inked "Ring Sizer" inscription. Box is one of only five or so we've seen in our 52 years. Fine. Ring has a solid, one-piece band and is a size 7. Ring was issued only in the US and the inner band surface has the trademark symbol of the ring maker Uncas. Canadian versions of this ring carry the inscription "Made In U.S.A." Band is nearly perfectly circular. The narrow most bottom of the band has a few tiny dots of silver luster loss and a few tiny surface scratches, all of which can be seen only on the closest inspection. Overall, about 98% of silver luster remains. Top panel features The Spider's red spider symbol outlined in silver and surrounded by black enamel. This is essentially Mint w/no chips or scratches. Overall a beautiful NM example.
