Item Description
This is the thin cardboard portfolio cover/envelope only for a premium was created for 1930s Kellogg's presentation. "Mother Goose" was used by Kellogg's for premium items including the punch-out book and the Mother Goose image that appears on this cover very closely matches her. Original art on the front is tempera and all text is hand-lettered. Portfolio was to contain "12 Big Action Pictures To Color" featuring nursery rhyme characters. As stated front cover illustration shows Mother Goose presenting the pictures to boy and girl w/the boy coloring one page. Additional illustrations include nursery rhyme characters falling from the pictures. These pictures were to be designed w/tabs to control mechanical actions. One flap on back includes mixed media original art illustration of an example picture and its movement. Text reads "To Make Cow Jump Over The Moon - You Simply Push This Tab Back And Forth" w/additional provided text lines. Top flap on back has hand-lettered "How Your Mother Goose Animated Pictures Will Look After You Color Them" text w/10 miniature example pictures cut out and mounted to the flap. Each has detailed states w/hand-done water-coloring w/characters including "Little Miss Muffet, Little Boy Blue, Jack be Nimble, Jack and Jill, Old Mother Hubbard," others. Scattered lt. wear along original fold lines of the flaps and slight dust soiling but relatively little wear to any of the art, all of which is quite bright and clean. An exceptional prototype w/beautiful art. Unique. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
