Item Description
Approx. 13x19" thin paper sign (wrapped/attached to stiff cardboard) for series of 12 cereal box insert cards issued in Post cereals in 1948. Cards were issued one per box and each box had matching box back story panels. Sign lists example titles for "Who Was The Mummy?, Who Was The Ghost" (see following lot #2087) and others. These cards were based on the "House Of Mystery" radio program, an old-fashioned storytelling session featuring a ghost-chaser and scientist of the supernatural whose experiences were supposed to prove that the paranormal was in fact false. All box backs feature character involved in the "Mystery" and end w/him figuring things out but leaving the "Solution" to be revealed by the matching card. Sign has art image of policeman at top left, box of Post's Corn Toasties at lower left and non-distinct cereal box backs at lower right. In addition to hand-lettered titles at top, prototype also features "'Mysto-Pix' Solution Cards Packed Inside Every Package - It's Blank - All You Do Is Rub It And Presto - The Solution Appears Mysteriously... As If By Magic!" This eventually turned into Post's "Magic Mystery Solution Card" premium, w/slightly different card titles. Margins and corner tip show scattered wear and bottom yellow portion has a number of long pencil marks. Fine overall. Very interesting item for non-sports and cereal premium collectors. Unique. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
