Item Description
"Zippy" by Bill Griffith began as a daily strip in the alternative press. It was picked up by King Features Syndicate in 1986, at one time appearing in over 200 newspapers. The titular character was inspired in part by the microcephalic characters in the 1932 film "Freaks." Offered here is a 5.75x14.5" thin artboard w/Griffith's pen and ink original art for story titled "Cultured Yogurt," that was published June 1, 1989. Art features Zippy doing the dishes as his wife Zerbina reads the newspaper and debates if Michelangelo actually painted the Sistine Chapel, prompting Zippy to pontificate that perhaps she thinks Shakespeare didn't write "Hamlet" or "Taming Of The Shrew." Zerbina lets the comment go, asking if Zippy prefers Daffy Duck or Yosemite Sam. Both characters appear in all four panels, which Griffith has signed "Griffy" between first and second. KFS copyright strip appears between third and fourth panels. "Zippy" title paste-over has lt. aging, but o/w art is clean and NM.
