Item Description
22x27.75" beautifully crafted custom frame holds wonderful cover recreation for "Detective Comics" #120 (Feb. 1947) featuring Batman and Robin peering into birdcage containing dejected and defeated Penguin. Art was recreated in black and white by the original cover artist - Win Mortimer (1919-1998), a Canadian comic book and comic strip artist best known as one of the major illustrators of the Golden Age Superman. Custom matte has cut opening at lower right for Mortimer's signature. Art is further enhanced as hand-colored by artist Dan Makara, who compliments the piece w/a great frame featuring collage style utilizing various comic panels from the 1940s, including several featuring Batman and Robin as well as The Penguin. Bottom center has hand-painted batsignal image w/cut out images of Batman and Robin chasing The Penguin, w/"Detective Comics 1947" hand-painted banner. Exc. Dan Makara Collection.
